a FAQ for ghosts, wooing them and getting them to be in your family...
Q1) How can I make a ghost playable?A) Once a relative dies, you will, at some point (this is random as to when you're offered, it can happen the day after they die or it can happen a week after) get an opportunity by the science lab, to take the remains of a deceased relative (i.e. their grave) and try to ressurect them. This procedure WILL fail, I've yet to hear of them fully ressurecting a sim. However it will make the selected dead relative into a playable ghost. The first time you do it, this is free but from that point on you have the option to pay 5,000 simoleons to have a relative ressurected.
Q2) Do playable ghosts age?A) Yes they do and what age they died at effects what age they're ressurected at. If they died of old age, then they will already been in the elderly life phase, otherwise they are the same age as when they died. When they reach their time to 'pass on' the Grim Reaper wont turn up instead you will see the message that they "Lost their grip on this world and can return to visit but cannot be restored" you've already restored them once, sadly you can't simply keep restoring them.
Q3) Can ghosts get pregnant/get people pregnant?A) Oh yes! As long as they're of a child bearing age (in other words young adult or adult) then they can get pregnant with either another ghost (see question 4) or a regular sim.
Q4) So I can have ghostly babies?A) Yup you can, however with a ghost/sim pairing there's a 50/50 chance for each outcome if only a single child is born, it could either be a ghost baby or it could be a normal sim baby, the best way to force the outcome is for one (or both) of the parents to have the Fertility treatment ability which should mean that you'll have twins (listen to Kids Radio and watch Kids TV to help increase your chances just incase), that way one will be a normal sim baby and one a ghost sim baby. With a ghost/ghost pairing, if parents are of the same ghost colour (see question 5) then the ghostly baby will share the colour of their parents (so pink/pink means the baby will be pink). If the parents are two different colours then there's a 50/50 chance it could be either colour, if you want to be sure and want one specific colour, use the same method as above to force the outcome.
Q5) So what colours of ghost are there and what do they all mean?A) Grey with White hair = Old age (The one colour you wont be able to breed into the family, since it means they're incapable of producing offspring)Pink (some say purple but to me it's pink) = Starvation.Yellow = electic shock.Blue = drowning.Orange = fire. That's all that's available at the moment, there are not other colours of ghosts yet sadly. Each Gravestone will also have a marker on it showing how they died, an hourglass for old age, a knife and fork for hunger, a lightning bolt for electrocution, a hand sinking beneath a wave for drowning and fire for well...obviously fire.
Q6) So a playable ghost is really just a regular sim but with a cool ghostly effect?A) Pretty much, however people WILL react with the "A GHOST!" emote whenever they see them...I've even had a ghostly mother bringing home a ghostly baby do that reaction and you will hear the 'ghostly whisperings' constantly... if your dedicated to playing ghosts you'll have either gotten use to it by now or found a way of shutting it off.
Q7) So what about unplayable ghosts?A) Unplayable ghosts don't age and if you want a lot haunted by them, I suggest placing the gravestones of any relatives that have died on your lot, this way you'll see them turn up every night. Be warned they love to watch TV, play the computer and generally make a mess of themselves so expect your bills to go up but it can be fun to have the family hanging around once they've passed on.Also you can use the unplayable ghosts in the local graveyard to create different colours of ghosts, though wooing them to the right level takes many nights as they only stick around from 11pm to 4am so if you want to convince one to try for a baby with your sim I suggest you get the unplayable ghost to max friendship, drag them over, flirt, seduce and coax them into bed to try for a child or go the other route and marry them, which should have them move in (I haven't gone this route myself yet).Hope this FAQ helps anyone looking to start a ghostly family, any further questions, please post below and I'll do my best to answer |
Contented with little, yet wishing for more.
