custom content FAQ

Will custom content made for the Sims 2 be compatible with the Sims 3 game?
well, i installed sims3 and just curious about that question
Our understanding is that the platform for the Sims 3 is different from the Sims 2. This means that you will NOT be able to use custom content from the Sims 2 for the Sims 3.

custom content FAQ

Is there any information on how much custom content will be able to create someone for the Sims 3? What types of Sims 2 custom content will vanish due to Sims 3 optimization?

We are supposed to be able to customize absolutely everything about in Sims 3. For instance, you will be able to customize your shoes to match the outfit etc. So, this will actually go a bit further than Sims 2.

As far as Sims 2, there will not be any changes as a result of the introduction of Sims 3. Most people will probably stop customizing Sims 2 as much and start focusing on Sims 3, however, existing Sims 2 sites will probably still exist and allow users to continue to access their content. So, you probably will not get much new stuff in Sims 2. More than likely (just a guess) EA/Maxis will probably not introduce any new Sims 2 content after the introduction of Sims 3. I am sure that they will have their hands full trying to keep up with Sims 3. More of a moving forward type effort.
if you're not happy at home, you're not happy anywhere else.
when will we be able to start downloading custom content for the sims 3? ( hair, clothes, make-up ect...)
Contented with little, yet wishing for more.
The game is set to be released the first part of June 2009. We think that it should take at least a couple of months to gain an understanding of the new Sims format but whenever contributors offer their content, i think these contributors will post it as soon as possible so that Simsters can enjoy the wonderful creations.

what path to put the custom content in?
how to make my sims3 recognize my custom content?
Custom content for The Sims 3, like The Sims 2, is generally in .package format. But you can't just put them in your My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads folder - that doesn't work! You will have to get a special file to enable the game reading custom content, and put the content in a special place.

Content DOES NOT go in My Documents!

Content DOES NOT go in My Documents!!!

Just so we are clear: DO NOT DO ANYTHING IN MY DOCUMENTS

first, make sure u installed Sims 3 to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3,
then, create a text file called C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Resource.cfg
last, create the folder for custom content, C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Packages
use friendliness but do not use your friends.
The Sims 3, how to Install custom content and items from the online store?
Concentration is my motto - first honesty, then industry, then concentration.
Make sure the files are all in your My documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 3 > Downloads. Then run the sims 3 launcher, go to install, they should show up. If not, contact EA support.
No learning, no hugging.
