{Sims 2} Recategorizing clothes

This is a tutorial for The Sims 2.. g  W9 Y0 P4 e6 r; w

$ y) q3 Z) m3 w4 f( vEver been designing a Sim in your game, only to find that the cute new sports outfit you just downloaded shows up under "Everyday" and "Athletic"? Sometimes, custom content creators think the outfit works both ways -- but what if you don't like your new cheerleader outfit as an everyday outfit? You recategorize, of course! Just follow this tutorial and your custom content will be in the categories you want them to be in no time! 0 a2 F7 R4 C& e7 n- p. _

Step 2)

Step 3)

SimPE will minimize itself and the Folder Scanner will appear instead. Like the name already explains, this Folder Scanner will scan the folders for your Sim clothing. Now, this is why we've placed our outfit in a separate folder in Step 1 -- I'm going to make the Folder Scanner look in "My Downloads".
( [/ `- k' i5 u" A
8 f5 q& B3 q6 M+ q1 R9 OOnce you've clicked the arrow, a drop-down menu will appear. To make SimPE scan a different folder than the standard Sims 2 folders (Downloads, Teleport, Neighbourhood and Bodyshop Sim Template), press the three ellipses at the bottom of the menu, like so:  ]6 n$ V: n" q8 p

# E$ I* P# q0 s: d0 a. B3 KAs you can see, my outfit shows up under "Everyday" and "Formal", while it's just a pair of jeans with a pretty top. Not exactly formal, right? To recategorize it, uncheck the formal button and press "set Categories":9 \6 L: ^  h2 l3 n

9 W7 W& F* Z" q2 y% I1 V, VAfter you've pressed "set Categories", you'll notice that the "Formal" box is checked again. This is normal, it's a tiny error in the coding script of SimPE. To truly check if your outfit is recategorized, repeat Step 4 to Step 7.

. ]5 s8 `6 I: uExit the Folder Scanner by pressing the red "X" in the top right corner. SimPE will appear again -- exit that, too. As long as you don't exit the programme, you can't do anything with the outfit, so it's easier to do that!
2 ^- t" ]4 L4 i- q' C, }# m1 H: I9 g+ q" u
You'll notice that in the folder you saved your outfit, a .BAK file has appeared. This is simply a back-up file of the outfit you recategorized, in case you put the outfit in your game and something crashes. I've never had that happen, so I usually delete them, but you might want to keep them around the first couple of times to make sure you don't accidentally mess up something in your game

$ P& @0 L) M6 {. P! K4 _$ SStep 10)" c6 Y% ^& l- H( r+ G# M
And you're done! If you have any questions, feel free to ask here, and I'll try my best to answer them. ( S6 t8 X+ s6 u7 i' E' i

" l0 P* {0 z9 d- c+ h+ n: B. _
; l- A( F' w4 [; H0 S( d3 ?Post Script.
7 z& d3 r- F, A' P. B- eThis is not the only way to recategorize clothing; you can also use the Wardrobe Wrangler. It's an easier programme but much more prone to crashing; and when it does crash, it corrupts the file you've been working on and deletes it off your computer. So SimPE is a much safer option if you'd like to recategorize an outfit

Really, it's complicated? I tried my best to make it as easy as possible. Is there any step in particular you don't get? I might be able to add more information. Also, I don't know how to do it in the Sims 3, as I don't own a copy myself and as far as I know, there are no external programs (like SimPE) that can tap into the game's source code

2 z% M. y. z! E1 M& q/ f) ]Sorry for the late reply, was on holiday! Anyway, you can recategorize however many clothing items you want at the same time, just remember to keep checking if you've done it right before you exit the program!
